2000 Hours
Sam's platoon were sneaking their way around the unrecognizable streets of Inglewood. Massive amounts of cars caught on fire cluttered the space which was once used for vehicles, buildings around were partially or completely destroyed. The only sounds that could be heard was the constant 'tic' of engines cooling off and gun fire at a distance.
The blonde's radio suddenly picked up a frequency from the US Army, a scared voice followed by loud gun fire echoed through the white noise. ''Can anyone hear me? We need back up, highway 405. I repeat, can anyone hear me?''
Sam crouched down and lifted a closed fist in the air, advising her marines to hold their position. She gripped her radio with a glove clad hand and clicked it on, bringing it close to her mouth before she began to speak. ''Loud and clear. This is Gunnery Sergeant Sam Mitchell, Protectors One-Six actual, Charlie Company, third marine division. How can we be of service?''
The radio was cutting off, but muffled words could be heard through. ''Thank...Marines...saved.'' The man speaking at the other end sounded excited, the next words coming out from the radio could be heard clearly. ''Protector's actual, this is Private Ryan of the US Army, 37th Infantry division. What is your position? Over.''
Sam looked up at the green sing above her head. ''Florence avenue, Private.''
''Rodger. Our Sargent is down, we need immediate back up. We're pinned down on San Diego 48. Over.''
''Wilco. Hold your line, Private. Over and out.'' Sam placed her radio back on her ''We have a new objective. Staff Sergeant Martin, you have the map?'' She asked with a nod of her head.
Deacon nodded and moved closer to the woman, opening up the folded map. He pointed to their located. ''We're here.''
''Right.'' Sam squinted her eyes slightly as she looked the map over. She saw the Highway 405 marker 48 and pointed to it. ''The 37th Infantry are pinned here.'' The blonde informed then slid her finger down to a set of streets. ''We'll take a left on Hyde Park Boulevard and another left to get on Industrial Avenue. There's a way to get on the Highway from there.'' Cobalt eyes look up to gaze on Martin, waiting for some sort of confirmation.
''Sounds like a plan, Gunny.'' Deacon replied with courteous head nod and a small smile.
Sam smiled back, before looking at her team. ''Once a marine, always a marine. Let's go men, with courage!'' She shouted, the with courage motto echoed from all the Marines around her.
