She peered at him and smirked. "Los Angeles." the young woman exhaled. "Born and bred here." a nod to him with suffice and she'd undo the pocket at her BDU pants, pulling out the small yet ripped picture of her daughter. "That's Anna...she had just turned four." looking down sadly as she held it down for him to see for a few seconds and then ran her thumb over the picture, placing it back in her pocket. "I just keep hopin' she's alive, you know, man?" Ortiz wasn't one to get sentimental or soft, but she knew that her team was her family whether any of them liked it or not. Still, what did it matter? Hoff was still acting like a 'big oaf' and no one really paid any mind unless he got into deep trouble. Deeper than his usual trouble.
"You?" she asked.

The Lieutenant Listened to Ortiz as she said she was born and raised right here in Los Angeles. That was a rather large blow to the stomach to someone fighting for their City to know that sooner or later, they will lose their home town. When she pulled the picture of the girl who seemed to be a spitting image of her mother he felt a small knot in his stomach just form and he swallowed hard taking the picture. " Beautiful girl, just like her mom." He said giving her a reassuring smile and handed the picture of her daughter back. When she said she was hoping her daughter was alive he would look at her and then to the floor before his eyes went back to the window, " I'm sure she is just fine... " Swallowing hard he looked to Ortiz once more. He had never done this before but he licked his lips and spoke," I promise I will get you back to your little girl."
It was rare of the LT to give promises out but one thing for sure, he never went back on a promise. He didn't want the thought of some girl growing up without a mother. Because he knew somewhere out there her daughter was waiting. Last reports of all Civilian Activity where in the Midwest. Most of the Military was concentrated on the Coastal Regions. All the civilians had been moved to whatever land they could find away from all the fighting. Cities like Denver, Oklahoma City, Omaha, Lincoln, Fargo and Helena haven't even seen a lick of the fighting but on the News.
Both eyes went out the window again as he would lean back and remove his gloves as she asked him in return where he was from. " Me, I am literally from All over. My dad was an Apache Pilot for the Army and my mom was just your typical house wife. They Retired in Houston, Last I heard from them they were headed to Dallas with my sisters because their house was on the coast when they heard about these Meteor Showers." He chuckled," Who'd of thought that these 'meteors'," He said pushing his fingers up making Quotation marks in the air," Would turn out to be Intelligent Extra Terrestrial life here to kill us all and basically make us Extinct." Wiping his face a bit of dirt and sweat he smiled," No kids though... One Ex-Wife and a Dog probably worried sick back in Fort Irwin. But I'm pretty sure my neighor got my dog out before the shit hit the fan." He gave her a little chuckle and smile before looking back out the window at the fire lit sky of Los Angeles.
